MFS0020 The Trench (Part 2)-Pocatello ID-Johnson TX
Welcome to the “Trench” which extends from North Alaska all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. The trench is low valleys and river beds which carve through the Rocky Mountains. In this trip we'll travel from Pocatello Idaho, USA all the way to Johnson Texas which is located on the Gulf of Mexico.
In this journey we’ll follow the valleys and rivers. We’ll follow the Columbia, San Juan, Navajo, Rio Chama, and Rio Grande rivers. We’re definitely out of RTMM territory but we’re following an interesting route and flying in very nice scenic areas.
This excursion covers almost 2000 nm in 23 legs.
The Excursion:
This is intended to be a low level flight excursion, mainly via valleys and rivers and we proceed southward along the Rockies. In FSX-P3D might have to tweak an airport ICAO or two to match the sim’s airport table but the flight plans will direct you to the locations of the intended airports.
Aircraft:
These are all land runways and some of the legs are a bit longer so a slightly heavier aircraft/helo might be in order. Either single or twin will fit the bill: IE: DHC-2 Beaver, DHC-3 Otter, DHC-6 Twotter, Piper PA28, Twin Cessna, Baron G58. When you get to the river run, might want smaller more agile aircraft IE: cub, 185, etc. As always please use the aircraft of your choice. I plan to use a DHC-6 then perhaps cub for the river runs.
SIM:
MSFS, FSX, P3D,
Time/Weather:
If possible try live time and live weather. If not possible set your own weather and time parameters and enjoy the scenery. Dawn or Dusk are the nicest times to fly and can yield very pretty and interesting lighting effects).
Add-on Scenery:
Refer to the Add-on Scenery folder in the tour download.
Tour download for this MFC0020 excursion is available from the download section and contains documentation, flight plans (.pln) for FSX/P3D/MSFS and LNM.
Additionally, have prepared sky-vector maps (links) for each flight leg for those seeking a greater navigational challenge in negotiating the route by way of dead reckoning and marking position/landmarks.
Refer to the flight plan and Cigar Box notes for intermediate stopover locations.
Tour Landings: Max landing rate is -600fpm or under for all landings.
