MFS0024 US East Coast-NEUS
In this excursion we continue our journey from in the state of Virginia traveling northward along the US eastern seaboard of the Atlantic ocean: all the way to Maine. We will veer off in a few locations to explore some famous US Cities: their points of interest some of which are very important landmarks. This excursion will take us through the states of the Northeast US (NEUS) in the vicinity of the coastal regions of: Maryland, District of Columbia, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and finally Maine. (Our last stop in this very log tour will be in Maine and very close to the US-Canadian Border, which will set up our position for the next excursion).
Background:
The Atlantic seaboard watershed is a watershed of the Atlantic Ocean in eastern North America along the Atlantic Canada (Maritimes) coast south of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence Watershed, and the East Coast of the United States north of the Kissimmee River watershed of Lake Okeechobee basin in the central Florida Peninsula. The continental area east of the Appalachian Mountains and highlands to the north and south is demarcated on the south by drainage to the Lake Okeechobee basin (which drains both westward to the Gulf and eastward to ocean), the Eastern Continental Divide (ECD) to the west, and the Saint Lawrence divide to the north. US physiographic regions of this watershed are the Atlantic Plain and the Appalachian Mountains & Highlands.
The Excursion:
This is intended to be a low level flight excursion. Although this tour is long, the actual flight legs are reasonably short and scenic. We’ll mostly be following the coastal areas of the eastern seaboard. The excursion covers 1863 nm in 28 legs.
All landings are airports and all legs are under 100 nm.
Aircraft:
These are all land runways and some of the legs are not very long so a lighter aircraft/helo will do. Speed is best around 100-130 kts to be able to enjoy the site seeing aspect. Either single or twin (standard or turbo engine prop) will fit the bill and as always, please feel free to use your craft of choice from the fleet.
Will run a single prop aircraft like a Cessna 170, 172, 182, 337 or a Piper Arrow or Beech Bonanza in this trip.
SIM:
MSFS, FSX, P3D.
Time/Weather:
If possible try live time and live weather. If not possible set your own weather and time parameters and enjoy the scenery. (Dawn or Dusk are the nicest times to fly and can yield very pretty and interesting lighting effects).
Add-on Scenery:
Refer to the Add-on Scenery folder in the tour download. (None mandatory)
Tour download for this MFC0024 excursion is available from the download section and contains documentation, flight plans (.pln) for FSX/P3D/MSFS and LNM.
Additionally, have prepared sky-vector maps (links) for each flight leg for those seeking a greater navigational challenge in negotiating the route by way of dead reckoning and marking position/landmarks.
Refer to the flight plan and Cigar Box notes for intermediate stopover locations.
Tour Landings: Max landing rate is -600fpm or under for all landings.
