MFC0025B Exploring Chitina-Kennecott

This trip is from Wasilla eastward into the glacier areas of Chitina and Kennecott.  Kennecott, also known as Kennicott and Kennecott Mines, is an abandoned mining camp in the Valdez-Cordova Census Area in the U.S. state of Alaska that was the center of activity for several copper mines. It is located beside the Kennicott Glacier, northeast of Valdez, inside Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The camp and mines are now a National Historic Landmark District (1986) and is administered by the National Park Service.

Get ready for some challenging flights and landings in this area.

Aircraft: Single engine fixed wing standard prop Amphibian* IE: C185, DHC2, DHC3 or similar. (*There are a few water moorings so have an eye and watch the flight legs closely for the stop-overs and the mooring types. Similarly helo pilots do your thing in a helicopter but you require a floats version on a few of the legs.   

This scenic excursion has 15 Legs and contains many stops along the way some of which are quite a challenge.
