MFC0030 Chugach National Forest Expedition

Description:

MFC0030 Chugach National Forest Expedition-Valdez to Juneau

This is a scenic trip from Valdez Pioneer Field (PAVD) heading south-east along the Gulf of Alaska and through a large portion of the Chugach National Forest as well as the Kluane National Park and Reserve, portions of the Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park and Glacier National Park and Preserve. All of these areas are glacier regions that we will explore as we make our way to Juneau.

These areas include extensive shorelines, glaciers, forests and rivers, much of which is untouched by roads or trails. It hosts numerous bird, mammal and marine species, including extensive shorebird habitat and a bald eagle population larger than the contiguous 48 states combined. Human industry in the forest includes extensive tourism and some mining and oil and gas operations as we will see in this excursion.

---------------------------------------------------------

This is a shorter expedition covers just over 800 nm and is in rugged terrain area for an interesting low and slow exploration.

Closely watch the legs and documentation as a few legs require amphibian* versions.

We are in a prime scenic area of ORBX-SAK and plenty of RTMM scenery and eye-candy enhancements.

Aircraft: This is another low and slow adventure so the aircraft used must be a single engine fixed wing standard prop Amphibian* as landing locations vary from land to water moorings. All of these flights are short so a lighter single prop is recommended but not (limited to): C185, DHC2 or DHC3 “Amphibian versions” but you can use any fleet single engine non-turbo “amphibian”. Heli pilots do your thing in a helicopter but for most legs you require a “floats” or amphibian version for some of the legs.  This excursion has 13 legs but has many interesting stops along the way.

Tour Flight Leg Rating Conditions: “6Ax”:

6=Max landing rate is -600fpm,

A=Autopilot and/or GPS use permitted: (but not recommended).

x-# of Stop-overs in the flight leg*.  Watch the flight legs closely as you progress through each leg of the excursion.
