MFC0050 Rockies 10 - Calgary Intl. AB to Pitt Meadows BC (CYYC-CYPK)
We continue northward in our Rocky mountain journey (#9) from Calgary AB. (CYYC) to Pitt Meadows BC (CYPK). On conclusion of this trip we’ll be back in RTMM scenery country. Right now we’re in Alberta on the east side of the Rockies – but as we progress we’re heading into the rugged Canadian Rockies.
You’ll might that in this excursion along our route there is railway tracks on one side or the other. This is the Canadian Pacific Railway line that runs east/west across Canada and directly through the most rugged parts of the Canadian Rockies. If you get lost, just follow the tracks westward and it will lead you back to our trail.
The legs in this trip are not long and they are direct (no mid stops) so this gives opportunity to once again use a single engine or lighter aircraft than previous trips. Beaver works great in these river valleys, canyons and through the mountain ranges. (We don’t have to go up and over for the most part – but through these mountains).
All landings in this excursion are again land runways: some not very long but not very difficult in a Beaver or single engine aircraft: provided the approach is correct. There are 15 legs in this trip: all direct.
Recommendation is a single standard: a Cessna C170, 172, 182, 185 etc single, or single de Havilland DHC2 or DHC3 etc. Perhaps will try the ole faithful Beaver Tundra or just a standard wheels version but feel free to fly the aircraft of choice.
For the helicopter pilots out there, a less rugged helicopter will do to be able to navigate this excursion.
Tour Flight Leg Rating Conditions: “6A0”
6=Max landing rate is -600fpm,
A=Autopilot and/or GPS use permitted: (but not recommended).
0= # of Stop-overs in the flight leg* (No stops!).
*Watch the flight leg details/tour doc closely for the stop-over locations in each leg.
